Star and gold papers start well below the breeding cap. It is the same distance from the start of A to the start of *star as it is from the start of *star to the start of **star. This is true for all paper levels.

The natural breeding cap falls halfway in between **star and ***star. (And **gold and ***gold)

Triple star/gold can only be obtained by boosting over the cap.

I am hoping the double and triple star/gold system provides new goals and helps members better understand improvement in their lines.

Futurity Locking


When you go to the control panel of a futurity-eligible foal you will see a new button option " Futurity Lock". If you futurity lock a horse it can not be sold directly back to the game until it hits six years of age. It can still be sold and auctioned. If you auction a Futurity Locked horse the auction bidder account will not bid and you will be the one to place the starting bid. There is no way to delete a futurity locked horse until it hits age six.

Again however only qualified horses can be locked. The horse must be sired by a stallion you have never owned.

Forum Rules Clarification


You can not extract any promises in your forum post or on your stallion's public notes. People try their best but mistakes happen, horses get sold, months go by. There is no way people are going to remember this stuff. You can not ask someone to promise they will not sell a foal or that they will futurity lock a foal. You can not require futurity locking publicly in any way.

If you have asked for any promises of keeping a foal in your posts please update them asap. Posts not updated in a timely manner will be locked.

What you can do:
You can absolutely bribe people to futurity lock. This is far less likely to cause hurt feelings. You can give people a replacement straw if they lock the foal. Or offer to send them a cash payout if they lock the foal. You can refund the breeding fee if they lock the foal. Go for bribes, not promises

Straw Swaps
Straw swaps are allowed on the forum only if there are no promises being made. You can of course sell straws with short expiration dates and other tactics to make sure they get used promptly. Straw swaps done privately over PM, in chat rooms, etc can have whatever rules you want to be attached to them, but I won't get involved if any drama results. Don't be an agent of drama.


Futurity Rule Changes


Looking into the future I can already see that getting enough stallions qualified every year was going to be difficult so I made a few tweaks. All offspring age 5 and below bred and owned by other players now count towards qualifying. To keep the emphasis on those studs who started 5 months ago though and to make the race more engaging, lifetime points of the best 10 foals create the stallion's final score. Before only points earned during the five-year-old year counted.

Additionally, I have preempted issues with stallion swapping that I could see coming by making it so the foals must be bred and owned by someone who has never owned the stallion at any point.


ETA: Before anyone asks I am not adding a bulk option for this at this time. It is not reversible and the very nature of the futurities means you will never have hundreds of these foals to mark at one time. Maybe in the future if I feel we need it but not just now.

Auctions no longer run on a "Tuesday/Thursday/Sunday at 8" schedule. They now run every minute. You can set your desired starting bid and how long you want the auction to run for in days. After that time has elapsed that auction ends.

Why is this changing?
The auctions really only work well for a small handful of players who happen to have consistent free time during the auction's end run. They have never worked well for a large number of players. This is bad for buyers for the obvious reason that if you can't use the auction it is worthless to you.

It was also bad for sellers though. The small number of buyers, inflexible auction conditions, and every horse having to be bid on at the same time meant that bids were far lower than they could have been. We should see a significant improvement in sale prices now.

With the new system, you can promote your auction horses on the forum. Since they can have any starting bid you want, run as long as you want, and take bids the whole time, you can use this new system to automate your auctions. No more having to be online to close them or fussing with chat rooms for the sales.

Can I still sell my horses back to the game?
Yes. Set the starting bid to the default 2,500 hbs and the auction bidder will automatically place the starting bid. If you place a starting bid of any value less than the lifetime payout of a horse age 10 or older it will instead bid the lifetime payout of that horse.

If you place a starting bid that is more than the auction bidder is willing to pay, your horse may not sell

Why does it say I bid on my own horse?
If your starting bid is higher than the auction bidder max, you place the starting bid instead of the auction bidder. This functions as your auction reserve.

What happens if my horse does not sell?
Nothing. If your starting bid is not met the horse simply does not sell.


What is not working yet?
I am still working on getting the rescue auction running nicely. It is working right now but is a bit inelegant. The "Last Week's Sale Records" page and the "Bid Watcher" pages are a bit of a mess right now and don't understand the new system. Once this goes live you still start seeing a new message when you refresh horse images "Adding backgrounds and items." This new system makes tack generation site-wide work the same as the advanced tack editor system. That means refreshes will no longer mess up your carefully arranged tack.

We are aware of the following bugs with the advanced tack editor.
** z-indexing (how images are layered on top of each other) does not always save correctly, particularly the horse layer.
** There is a known issue with tattoos and Chrome browsers.
** The advanced editor is not saving thumbnails just yet.

Now that this project is out the door we will be fixing these right away. They should be pretty quick to get patched, but I am letting you know about them here so you don't think they are bugs with the new system.

This is not currently running when horses auto age-up, but we expect that to be in place before the next rollover.

We do expect this system to have some bugs. If you see odd behavior please let us know about it so we can address it.

Void is a new allele of the Rainbow Riot 2 gene. It turns white markings into pure black.

Not Wrong Warp!
At first glance, you might assume such an allele was just another wrong warp but there are significant functional differences between them. First, void does not cause warping. Second, void converts markings to black, while wrong warp converts white areas to black and has color tearing. They can result in strikingly different appearances.


Here is our first example horse:

It is important to note that for the purposes of void, ice, gray, chinchilla, and cream do not count as markings. While they might show wrong warp they will not show void.

Splash is voided ice is not.
