On February 27th of this year, we purchased a new house in a lovely walkable neighborhood, five minutes from our dream school for our daughter. We were watching the news of a spreading virus in case it impacted travel but everything seemed ok. I was in the air and bound for Bulgaria the same day of the house closure. I was there for some much-needed rest and stress relief. By the end of that two week “destress” break, the world was in chaos and I was terrified for what would happen to my business and what COVID might do to someone with autoimmune issues and lung scarring like myself.

Nine months later, every single one of us has been touched by this pandemic. All of us know someone who has had it. Some of us are sick with it right now. Many of us have lost loved ones. I am keenly aware that statistically, given the number of users we have, this community has lost some people to it too. This has been a grueling and traumatic year.

In March we braced for the worst, what I had not expected was the sheer level of kindness and commitment people in the community have. Hundreds of you participated in our first-ever June gift exchange. You helped care for and lift each other up. Despite the uncertainty of the times, in a moment when I expected people to turn inward and care for their own households only, you continued to support mine, and you continue to support each other.

We are deeply humbled that during the worst tragedy any of us have ever experienced, you still thought about our little horse game. Still cared enough to check-in, and to support us. We braced for the worst and you all showed us the best.

Nothing about 2020 went as expected. I am not grateful for the suffering this year has brought, but I am grateful for what it has shown me. I may not be seeing my biological family this year, but my HAJ family has had my back. How can the head of any community not be deeply moved by that?

I sincerely hope you enjoy all the end of year festivities in the game, and I can’t wait until we can properly celebrate the end of this pandemic too.

2020 is the year where nothing goes right, so we needed an ice gene that doesn't go right and messes everything up too.

Introducing Ice 20. Instead of frosting a horse over, Ice 20 leaves a horse covered in water spots (hello leopard markings! :-O :x )

It is a fully dominant gene that only needs one copy to show and will completely melt away and hide any other copies of ice the horse might also have. It also slushes out the base color-shifting everything towards gray. Keep this in mind as it will leave strong gray markings on pale horses.

It is now for sale for 15 US and is available until the end of 2020.

DFP2 acts on the dun gene to create larger and bolder primitive markings on a horse. This is a licensed gene and requires a copy of true dun (not nd1 or onyx) to show.


When Het
The gene only requires one copy to show. With a single copy the horse will be marked with a bold shoulder cross.

Horses with two copies of the gene will produce dramatic drizzled dorsal stripes

Pigment density
The size of the primitive markings are influenced by the amount of pigment a horse has with darker horses having larger markings.

With DFP1
DFP2 also has a bold interaction with DFP1 resulting in intense brindle like markings. DFP1 is also for sale if you would like to combine these two genes.

Phantom Apple Picking
The first new gene is an addition to our phatom line up. Apple Picking shows up on PINTO markings. Meek this in mind for what ever horse you add it too.

Sunshine and Snowdrop
Sunshine and Snowdrop are two newly identified real-life genes. The genes are named after the horses they were first located in. Right now these genes are incredibly rare so it is difficult to know exactly how they work but they appear to function the same as pearl so I have implemented them this way. They show up in the color name as pearl, because the color name is the phenotype and they have the pearl phenotype but that may be changed as more info comes out about them.


These genes are available until October 15th and all are $5.

Summer is the best time for the best sport, Jellyfishing! To enter the Jellyfishing Promenade post your Jellyfish gene horse below. I will pick out all the jellyfishes that catch my eye (could be color, a good tack job, a funny name etc) and then pick one at random. You can enter as many times as you want but I will only select one of your jellies for the drawing.

Everyone has a shot to win the Promenade as I am giving away the tokens needed to create your jellyfish.

The winner of the Promenade will receive 50 GMT tokens and 5 million hbs. !!!A Staggering $650.00 value!!!



Hunt for the Mysterious Sea Pony
Sea Ponies can be created on the create a horse page and can appear at random on any new creates. Sea ponies are regular ponies cursed by the Sea Witch to live in water and have a fish tale. You can redeem a Sea Pony to get a GMT token. For this event, I am giving away a TON of sea ponies because I want people to have fun making jellyfish horses with the GMTs. I have also made it so that the smaller your barn the better your odds are at catching a Sea Pony via beginners' luck. You can create up to five sea ponies before your luck runs out.

Don't forget Jellyfish costs 5 GMTs in the lab, so you can turn your 5 sea ponies in and use the GMTs for a new jellyfish gene horse for the Promenade. I am counting your sea ponies on the back end and you can turn in your sea ponies at any time. You do NOT need to hold on to them. Please turn them in so you can make jellies.

The person who creates the most Sea Ponies will win 2.5 million HBs and a 100-acre pasture. !!A $275.00 value!!

Jellyfish is a brand new phantom gene. Like other phantoms, it requires PINTO markings to show. That means tobiano, KIT, splash or frame is a must. Also of note is that Jellyfish is a pretty scant marking. That means the jellyfish are pretty spread out. Horses with minimal white markings may require many rerolls to get the gene to show.

Jellyfish also marks a change in price. I have found that will all my payment processing fees that a price of 2.50 was just unreasonably low for the phantom genes. Jellyfish and all future phantom gene sales will bump up to 5 dollars per copy (and no higher). I feel that is still very affordable while also actually covering the expenses of creating a new gene. To help soothe that price change though Jellyfish WILL be available in the GMT lab for a price of 5 tokens. Rainbow Riot is a fantasy gene that includes vivid rainbow color alleles. Rather than affecting the body, the paintbrush trio only acts on the mane and tails of horses. It creates colored streaks in a range of hues and intensities. Paintbrush paints the hair rather than changing pigment so it acts quite differently to genes like watercolor. Paintbrush is not changed by the base color** (or even lighted by gray). It covers everything; white markings, axiom inversion, chimera, everything. It also only shows if it is on the primary set of DNA for chimeras. The issue of chimeras will only come up if you merge horses as RGS sales always add the gene to BOTH sets of DNA.

**Note it is often not 100% opaque so the base color might slightly show through but does not otherwise interact with paintbrush in any way.

Color Types
Paintbrush comes in three color types, cool, warm, and prism. Paintbrush Cool results in streaks of blues, greens and purples, even the occasional silver. Paintbrush warm gives streaks of reds, oranges, yellows plus a few maroon and magenta shades. Paintbrush Prism is straight ROYGBP rainbow hues.

Expression
Paintbrush only requires one copy to show and horses having it will have "Painted" in there color name.

Paintbrush has an unusual mode of expression not found in real life or other game genes. One copy of paintbrush results in washed streaks of the color type. Two copies result in a bolder more opaque look. If two copies of warm are added you will get one solid warm color, or more commonly, two warm colors blended in the mane and tail. Same for the cool variant. Prism het or hom always results in random rainbow colors with the hom variant being more vibrant.

When a horse has two different paintbrush variants the allele on the dam's chromosome (the second listed allele) will always be the more predominantly shown color. and partially cover the sire's chromosome resulting in a huge range of color possibilities.

Colors are random and can be drastically changed by a reroll (not refresh) of the horse's image.
