Putting this here so it does not get lost in all the images. With the update to w20 and W29(W3) KIT breeders have a wider selection of genes they can pull from that won't go all white when paired together. Some will with higher white factor but not low white factor. Some will never go all white. Hopefully these help you figure out how to adjust your lines if sabino 1 and white 15 are not working for you now.

As I said in the prior update if you need help adjusting your lines reach out to me via PM and I can get you sorted.

W20
-This allele was dynamic before but it has been updated to more seamlessly interact with other KIT genes. It produces a low amount of white on its own but has a moderate boosting effect when combined with other kit genes.

W20/- minimal expression

W20/- maximal expression

W20/W20 minimal expression

W20/W20 maximal expression

W3 was added to our game with Mr. Millions before the real-life W3 was named. It does not look or act anything like real W3 so Mr. Million's white is now labeled W29. There is no real-life W29 and never will be so I am using it to do something special for the game.

W29 has medium white with low boosting impact. It does not drastically increase white when combined with other KIT Genes.

W29/- Minimum expression

W29/- Max expression

W29/W29 Minimum expression

W29/W29 Max expression

Both these interact fully with Sb1 and W15. When combining alleles you will get a result that is a mixture of the two.

W20/W29

W20/W15

W29/W15 minimal

W29/SB1 minimal

W20/SB1 minimal

Each form will interact a bit differently wich all the other forms.

Last there was an update to roan. I found it was consistently not showing up strong enough even after the prior update. There is baseline more roan but you can also get more vby getting a new seed.

Older tarnished horse on light chestnut base

Tarnish is a gene that slowly increases pigment production as a horse ages, creating a tarnished appearance. This does not work like sooty or DP and is not connected to them. As you can see in the example image the tarnishing happens independently from normal darkening and can create dramatic results.

Tarnish is currently available until the end of January.
PURCHASE HERE

Some quick facts:
-Tarnish is a "hypothetical" gene meaning it is grounded in reality so it is not a fantasy gene but there is no reason to think it exists in real life.
-Tarnish is inspired by gray hyperpigmentation, and I imagine it would work in a similar, but much slower, way to gray. It just never goes so far as to kill the chromatophores like gray does.
-Tarnish requires a license to own.
-Tarnish is not available in the lab and there are no plans for it to be in the lab for at least a real-life year.
-Tarnish is recessive and requires two copies to show.

Tarnish shows best when starting on a lighter base. I strongly advise you not to spend money to add it to your already very dark lines. There has to be somewhere for it to go with darkening for it to have much impact.

Note on the examples listed blow, I increased the darlening speed by 20% after making these, so just imagine it says Age 2/Age 8/Age 16/Age 24 instead of 2/10/20/30

Examples:

---------------------------------

Note the limited impact on this liver chestnut. This horse is too dark to show much with tarnish. It would show nothing at all on a black horse.

---------------------------------

Tarnish will overpower chinchilla seen here.

---------------------------------

I would not pair it with gray/gray reduction. This is the same G/g gr/gr horse shown with and without the gray. It shows much better without gray hyperpigmentation.

---------------------------------

Tarnish works well with Dun Factor promoter genes.

I have decided to change the status of Chocolate and Platinum to be listed as hypothetical genes instead of fantasy as there is no biological reason why they could not exist in horses.

If you have a horse with a fantasy flag from one of these genes you can refresh the image and it will remove the flag.

Platinum has no club but hopefully, this along with it being permanently in the lab, will increase numbers enough to allow one soon.

Chocolate has had the word "Fantasy" removed from its club name. Because so many horses in this club have fantasy genes I am not going to be barring fantasy horses from the chocolate club at this time. The club is going to stay under the fantasy category but for the time being, but is open to both fantasy and non fantasy horses. It MIGHT end up barring fantasy horses someday but I have no plans for that for the time being.

Have fun playing with these!

A conversation happened the other day on Discord about how stallion owners get the bulk of the gmts on the futurity but foal breeders do the bulk of the work, take on most of the risk and use the most stall space. On every server, but especially on bluegrass, it is difficult to get people to breed foals rather than just stand stallions.

Right now each era awards 56 gmts. 36 go to stallion owners with 1st place getting 10gmts, 2nd 8 gtms, 3rd 6 gmts, 4th 4 gmts, and finally 5th gets 2 gmts.

The best 10 foals from 1st and 2nd place each get 1 GMT, awarding 20 to foal owners in total.

This is the proposed change suggested yesterday on Discord:

1st place stallion 8 GMTs, best 10 foals 1 GMT each.
2nd place stallion 6 GMTs, best 10 foals 1 GMT each.
3rd place stallion 4 GMTs, best 8 foals 1 GMT each.
4th place stallion 1 GMT, best 6 foals 1 GMT each.
5th place stallion 1 GMT, best 4 foals 1 GMT each.

Before 5 stallions and 20 foals shared 56 gmts, with the proposed change 5 stallions and 38 foals would share 58 gmts.

The largest benefit to this change would be to push the value of foal breeding and reward a larger number of foal breeders in hopes of encouraging breeding rather than just standing of stallions. This is particularly needed on bluegrass where the long-standing culture of breeding to only your own stock has limited the number of futurity participants, but I think would benefit all servers.

I would like your feedback. Should we implement this change for the January awards?

Thank you so much to everyone who provided feedback on this. We have had a few days and the flow of comments has really calmed down.

Bluegrass was strongly in favor of adding this in right now and at a limit of 3 per account. Forest was mostly neutral and more concerned with how associated accounts would be handled. Mesa leaned toward waiting and having 5 per account.

Combining the feedback of all servers I have landed on the following:
-This will be implemented right now. A lot of players are very intent about this, much more so than the people who suggested waiting. I personally think it sets us up for more informed conversations about the June update as well.
-I will add to the club rules a request for players to limit themselves to 2 accounts per club. It is easy enough if you have more than 2 accounts to just focus/keep entries on the different accounts to different clubs. I have done this with my test accounts in the past and it works well.
-We will be starting with a limit of 5 placings per account per category. This is to help small servers like mesa run, prevent altering the payout on the limited-era clubs, and give more transition time to help smaller clubs/servers adjust.
-I have also removed any fantasy restrictions from the size clubs.

I am going to roll out the limit of 5 placings per club. I expect pretty rapidly to be making tweaks to help small clubs run, so don't panic if you see clubs with not enough horses. We have over three weeks to massage things and make sure as many can run as possible.

For example, I can see right away that the Miniature club needs to change to include a wider size range.

How did this change impact your LB standings?

Do you see any clubs that are going to need some extra help?

We have a bunch of updates all coming out at once this morning!

The American Miniature Horse BC is now available to unlock, or already available to those of you with a BC subscription. While the breed is height-restricted in real life it is not in the game. You can use it for any size horse you want.

The mini BC is for light and medium-bone horses.

This is a bonus BC that Jenx was kind enough to squeeze in for us before his holiday started.

____

We have had a system in place for some time where horses change in proportion as they become shorter or taller. This worked well we had the static posed national BCs, and only went to 12 hh. Now that we have a lot more poses, types, etc., that scaling no longer works correctly for a lot of horses. I have scrapped the old scaling and horses now straight scale and just become larger or smaller with no distortion.

We also have had a bug for a bit with positioning on scaled horses causing small horses to float way up and larger horses to sink below frame. This has been fixed.

This should have minimal impact on tack. Tack sticks to the horse and scales with it. If you have manually positioned your horse in the frame it will stay where you put it. Only horses in the default location will move.

___
Tack tab updates!

We have been WAY overdue for tack editor updates. Thank you everyone for your patience. Our move this year greatly complicated work on the editor but we are now in the position to focus heavily on it again.

We have taken some big steps today. First, the advanced tack editor is now the standard tack editor and will load with the page. We are well aware that not every tack type works on that editor yet. We are putting ourselves in the hot seat to force us to prioritize those updates. In the meantime, if you need the old editor there is a link on the tack tab to access it. We will be rapidly updating this editor as soon as we are back from break.

Firefox users, there is a known bug on some very new versions of Firefox where the horse turns into a triangle grid on this editor. This is a bug in Firefox itself. If you run into this, edit your image as normal (just ignore the triangles) save it, then refresh the image from the horse home tab. Refreshing will fix the horse.

You will also notice the new HorseGeneticsGame.com badge in the lower right. This server-coded badge will replace the old logo and will go on top of everything else. That way the game logo can't accidentally get hidden.

Awards have also been updated. If you have arranged your awards yourself they will not move. If you have awards in the default position your ribbons will now nicely stack at the top of the page and trophies will line up on the bottom of the page.

---

Our family has been going non-stop this year without any proper breaks. We are going to take the next two weeks off for family time and rest. If there is anything game-breaking we will of course fix it but you can expect to see us backing making regular updates after New Year's.

**I will probably roll out a few things here and there since I wake up very early and get bored but nothing is specially planned. :D

This December we are very excited to offer the East Bulgarian as our BC of the season. This will be a medium-weight BC available to unlock or via BC subscription. Since it is our first winter living in Bulgarian we thought this would be a really fun way to celebrate. The Bulgarian is not out yet, but I wanted to share it before GE sign-ups started.

The East Bulgarian was founded in the 1890s after Bulgaria was liberated from the Ottoman Empire. They needed a calvary mount so the state stud set to work crossing Arabian and Thoroughbred stallions with native mares to create a fast and agile war horse. In the 1950s with horses no longer needed for war the breed started incorporating Trekhener and Hanoverian stock with the aim of creating a sporting breed. These days they are primarily used for jumping and dressage.

Normally we try and put out three new BCs every winter, but the changes required to the generator have been immense. Instead, we decided to put out one we are really proud of and focus on some much-needed shading improvements to several of the older BCs. Special thank you to our BC subscription members for allowing us that flexibility.

Vesela Koleda (Cheerful Feastingtime) from Bulgaria

On the discord server, we have been having a long-running conversation about how to make the leaderboards more engaging and more equitable with an aim for a major update for June of 2025.

One idea that came up as part of that conversation was a limit on how many placings per category a single user can take. To be clear I am not talking about how many placings you can get in the whole of the Black club for example. I mean how many times you can place in Black Best Stallion, Black Highest PT etc. Each individual award category would be it's own limit. They are not combined.

I am considering limiting it so each account can appear between 3 and 5 times per top 25 list. I want to be clear that this will have zero impact on how GMTs are distributed. The point of this change is so that more players have a chance to even earn a ribbon.

In some categories, there is only a single player with a top ability breeding program and they can easily sweep the entire 25 spots of a category. (particularly the PT board) While that is awesome that their program is so strong, this is really discouraging to other players who may feel like there is no point in even trying to enter the club. I feel like the game can reward these players while still making room for others.

-I am aware that we have a number of clubs that the foundation board probably won't run if I add this limit, I will probably have an exception for foundation horses and we may have to tweak some club rules on the smaller clubs.

This change is coming as I think it really helps build-up players just entering the late game, and I think makes for a healthier community. Here is what I want feedback on.

1) When should we implement this change? Now, for the new era or in June.
2) How tight should the limit be? How many placings per category should we allow?

Please keep your feedback focused on those two questions. If you have other ideas for LB improvements, that conversation is happening on our discord for now. It will be moved to the forum, once I am ready for that.

Back in July, I warned everyone that this was coming, and now it is finally time to see it in the game.

Every image in the game is updating!

If you love the specific markings or look of any of your horses you have this weekend to save the images to your computer. We are prepping for mass updating. This will not impact your tack/backgrounds/awards/BC choices etc. It will change the colors and markings of your horses.

Why is this update happening?
Our image generator was originally designed for only the two near-side legs. This worked great for a long time and worked ok with the side poses for the BCs up until now but we want to offer much more dynamic poses. Doing so required a huge update on the generator so it now generates fourlegs independently instead of just the two.

I like the old generation why do I have to update my horses?
The process of making things work for four legs removed all the stop-gap measures we had added to make it sort of work for the new standing BCs. None of those BCs will work correctly after this update without regenerating the horse. Additionally, we have a ton of horses in the game that still have generations from before those half-measures were implemented and they really won't look right at all. There are to many horses that NEED to be updated for us to mess around with making it optional.

How will the update happen?
We have added a tracker that takes note of the last time your horse's image was refreshed or regenerated. The next time your horse's image refreshes for any reason (be it tack update, award, aging, image to old, etc) it will regenerate the image instead of refreshing.

Once this update goes out, every horse in the game will have an image that is flagged as "too old" and its image will automatically regenerate when the page is loaded. To see the new generation you will only need to open your horse's page.

At this time it will require a page open to update an image. We plan in the future to run a slow mass update to update the rest of the images in the background but have no eta on that.

How will my horses be impacted
First of all, brace yourself for marking changes. With every update comes the chance that markings can change a good deal. I had to edit almost all genes to make them work for this update and any time I touch them the change that markings will be different increases. Just plan for that to happen.

This update also comes with a ground-up rebuild of bay so that agouti promoter can work properly and be more realistic. I also adjusted the tones slightly on chestnut-based horses and cream expressions.

-Black-based horses won't see a ton of changes to their color.
-Red-based (chestnut) horses will see some minor tone shifts, mostly more saturation at the lighter end.
-All bay horses in the game are going to see a LOT of changes. Sooty and sooty plus have been made more distinct from one another.
-Agouti plus horses will see the most change of all, as agouti plus is now just a part of regular bay and simply reduces the overall amount of black expressed. Expect your wild bays to look more wild bay like and your dark agouti plus horses to be like other bays.
-Cream horses have also been updated to be richer in tone.

I have started the process of rebuilding our image generator to work with all four legs instead of two legs. I have to go through the code gene by gene for this update which means it's also the perfect time to work on a huge number of updates that have been long overdue. These changes are currently limited to how genes are visually expressed in the game.

I am going to be making a very large number of changes and I want everyone to be emotionally prepared for that.

Notably, markings are probably going to change because if I edit a gene it changes how the seed renders.

This is what my current list is looking like:
-Wild bay getting updated for more realism
-Cream needs an overhaul, the hues are just not right
-Satin will be redone to look more realistic (more shiny less iridescent)
-A huge number of genes need to be made fully dynamic including dun, several white spotting genes, etc. The expression on these might change quite a bit.

That's the major edits I have planned so far. The actual number of genes I need to work on is basic "all of them"

I do not know yet if edits will come out all at once or in pieces. There are pros and cons of both systems, and for technical reasons, it might all have to come out at one time later in the year. I will do my best to update this post wit examples of progress so the changes won't be a total surprise.

I have already finished updates to bay/brown. I am now working on a significant overhaul of wild bay. I think it is going to piss off some wild bay breeders but right now it 1) really does not look realistic and 2) is one of the least popular genes in the game so the changes are 100% coming.

I will do my best to answer questions but I may not be able to answer all of them.

During this dark liminal time vampires, goblins, werewolves and vengeful sprits roam the land. God granted Kutsulan the right to eat man, and he has terrorized people during the Wolf Holidays ever since. During this time, no garments must be made particularly of sheep's wool, scissors must be tied shut to tie shut the jaws of the wolf, and needles packed away as they are like wolves' teeth. Anyone foolish enough to ignore these prohibitions is bound to be devoured.

All horses will be White Spotted Silver Grullo Rabicano with KIT M and Tiger Eye.

Homozygous Black Homozygous Rec. Practitioners dress in elaborate costumes as stylized spirits, animals, dragons, priests, brides, bears and other caricatures. The most iconic costumes are made of long haired goat hides, and are adored in cowbells. The sounds of hundreds of cowbells ringing together, pounding drums, and the fearsome masks help drive away bad spirits and ensure fertility and health for the year to come.

All horses will be Exceptionally Perfect Sable or Classic Champagne Pearl Dun Sabino Tobiano, with sabino 2 and hom.
