The problem: The leaderboard gives free GMTs, GMTs pay for maxing, maxing gives you a better shot at the leaderboard winning you more GMTs, causing the biggest barns to squeeze the smaller barns off the LB. It's not terrible at the moment and is a slow trend, but I have been watching things going the wrong way for a while and it's time to make sure we don't go all billionaire class around here and squeeze out small accounts.

This is not about boosting, boosting and maxing are not the same thing.


To prevent a runaway consolidation of LB awards I will be changing the price of Ability Maxing from GMTs to the equivalent cost in IVs. This means being on the LB would no longer give you free maxing.

I had another option enter my brain today. Instead of changing the currency, I could instead just limit every account to X number of Ability Max Outs per season. I don't care if people can earn free maxing out. I think if you play smart that is a great reward, but I just want to make sure lots of people get rewards not just a few people. Option two would spread out the GMT awards between more players.


Both are ways to limit the very powerful "Max Out Ability" feature. One soft limits it by price, and the other hard limits it by count per season. Let me know which you would rather see. If option 2 how many per season is fair? I think 4 or 5 personally but let me know what you think.


Option 1: No limits. Everyone pays with IVs.

Option 2: Everyone pays with GMTs (that you can win from the boards), but everyone is limited meaning they have to focus and can't take over lots of boards at once. How many is fair?

After doing some intensive testing I have found that these days the primary era club lags too far behind. Members are breeding horses that are so much better than they did in the past that it makes sense to move the primary era (that one that gives extra prizes) up. Basically, it is now possible to reach cap quality in just over 1 year of breeding effort so leaving an era for 2 years means it is possible for players breeding in a later era to use smart boosting to dominate an era that they did not build their line in. If you don't understand what this means don't worry. Just know that the change is to keep era breeding competition fun and fair. There is no point in having the primary era come so late that the only horses who are at cap or boosted post cap can compete.


To accomplish that for the next 6 months we will have two primary LB eras.

Bluegrass Primary Era Calendar:
December 23: Era 12 and Era 13 will give extra prizes
June 24: Era 14 will give extra prizes.

Forest Primary Era Calendar:
December 23: Era 10 and Era 11 will give extra prizes
June 24: Era 12 will give extra prizes.

Mesa Primary Era Calender:
December 23: Era 2 and Era 3 will give extra prizes
June 24: Era 4 will give extra prizes.


I am still doing my testing and it is very likely we will have two primary eras in June 24 as well but I am starting with shifting things by six months. Also, I will be manually adjusting these eras after the rollover so don't be surprised if you don't see both eras as primary right away.

Some game news
-I have spent many hours looking into a safe way to identify and adjust ages on the older horses that double aged. Right now it does not look promising that such an adjustment is a smart move. The risk of really messing up all the horses in the whole game is pretty high if I muck around like that. If you have a beloved horse you really want to get one more breeding out of drop me a PM and I can adjust up to two horses for you. The good news is we are pretty damn confident we fixed the issue, and test server trials look solid.

-I am trying to get to some more shiny updates on straw sales but we are absolutely swamped with moving stuff. I move to Europe in 4 weeks and we have tons of critical paperwork, legal appointments, and moving arrangements to sort out. Plus workers in and out of the house getting it ready to rent. Don't forget I have all the day-to-day running of the site still going on. So more updates are coming, but work is slow right now.

-Haystack and Jenx are also busy. We have some very exciting BCs being worked on right now, and Haystack has a dynamite improvement to the tack editor he is working on. The Ponpon BC is a limited edition release. You can create them on April 1st, and use them whenever you want, if you have a BC subscription. The Ponpon BC will not be sold normally and will only be available via a BC subscription after today.

Ponpons are a fantasy BC because while they are very small, they do not alter the real height of the horse and can be applied to any bone weight. If you are planning to go for backgrounds but are not ready to post for approvals yet that is fine but please do post that you are going to post later. I need to get a rough idea of participation for planning reasons.

What makes a good background

  • Your images must be exactly 500 by 500 pixels. Anything else will be instantly rejected.
  • Do not put the game URL on your image. We will do that.
  • Images must be of good resolution (not grainy/pixilated).
  • Include an area for the horse to stand at the bottom of the image. Not the middle! This area should be around 100 pixels tall.
  • Clear area means actually clear. That means if you are working with AI you will need to make your own clear areas. Foregrounds with lots of rocks/sand/grass etc do not count as clear. Stuff to the left and right of the horse does not count as clear.
  • Do not add heavy shadows where the horses will stand.
  • Backgrounds may be any subject you want but must visually fit the game. That means photographic images and those with heavy paper textures won't work. The backgrounds should look like digital art to fit the game. Please note, I will be pretty relaxed about style but photos and heavy texture just don't work for the game.
  • These rules are here to make sure you don't spend money on a background that ends up being shunned because it looks bad in the game. I want you to get good value out of and enjoy your owner

How to Order Backgrounds

  1. Post up to 10 candidate images in this thread for approval. After your first 10 are vetted you can post another 10 but please keep it to 10 per post. If you don't know how to post images on the forum please make a separate post asking for help with that.
  2. Once you have that number of approved images you want, you can order your tokens and make your "I am ready to order" post on the Moving Sale order thread.

Subscriptions are not updated just yet. We have some interfaces we have to build to get those working, but it is the next project to happen. Once that launches the price will be increased to 9.50. Why is this update so late?

It's no secret that this was supposed to be out in September. We ended up having to build a lot more than expected and this has been a huge project to get working. We still have to build all the subscription management features! (No more hunting for sub stuff on Paypal!) It would have been out in October but unfortunately, our daughter had a mental health crisis. For 3 weeks we fought to see doctors, to get meds adjusted to even get the medication we needed. We had insurance companies refusing, pharmacies having stocking problems, etc., and through all of this, a kid who could not go to school so I was home-schooling her the best I could. We lost 3 weeks of October. Thank you for your patience with this one. Please post your suggestions with a horse breed you want to see added to the game. If you want a very dished fashed arab, or a heavy set quarter horse please make sure you are specific and give examples. Otherwise, we will assume you mean a generic member of that breed. You can post photos/links if you want, and explain why you think a breed should be added next. It's ok to repost the same breed or variants of a breed posted by someone else. It's also ok to have variants of breeds we already have represented.

This is just our brainstorming phase. There will be a round of voting to help us decide on the final picks.

This breed is available for both light and heavy bone weights.

A note on the foal. It needs a few more tweaks to its warp but I don't have the file I need right now and won't be able to get it for a week or so. It is close enough for now though. I will clean up the marking alignments that need it once I can.



I have been aggressively pushing out updates lately. Here are a few you might have missed.
  • The "Pay Another Member" has been heavily updated (My Stable>>Account and Stable Management>>Pay Another Member) I would love to see the game switch away from payment ponies and towards using this feature instead as this is designed for that purpose.
  • If you had an issue where you could not make a new style premium subscription because of a stuck legacy subscription that should be cleared out now.
  • You can now completely delete owner notes (no space needed).
  • Fixed the issue with the auction sometimes not selling horses.

That is just a small sample of what I have been up to the past two weeks. Check the change log to see all the things I didn't post about here.



The prices to purchase hbs and boost tokens were set up over 15 years ago. They reflected an economy in the game that is very different from now. I have permanently halved the prices on these items to bring the prices more in line with what makes sense for now.

The smaller hb amounts and the 1% token have been dropped from the list as items below 5 USD cost us too much to sell in processing fees. They were never very useful anyways.

Because of the costs coming up are so high I am willing to take special requests for sale items. I don't mean a percentage off sale on things in the shop (though we can do that too.) I am willing to sell my time.

Some things that come to mind are maybe:
-picking a herd helper to be assigned for you with as many creates as you want
-impossible cloning, or gene edits
-creating straws/eggs from long-dead game horses.

These are the sorts of things I am talking about that I could sell. This is not an advertisement to purchase these things. In this post, I really want to hear what sort of things you might want to buy if you had god-mode access to the game.

Please note I will need minimum orders of 50 USD to make this profitable but I am willing to sell smaller things worth less than bundled if people have ideas. I am also willing to sell WAY larger things. Let me know what you can dream up.

**Just a note, yes this horse is large withered, a bit long, and a bit underbuilt in the hind end. These are intentional choices I have made as I feel it best represent the breed. I want a horse that looks like many of the OTTB's many people own and love. So please know that I won't be changing those aspects. We are also going for a very young baby with this foal. We plan to add a bit of ribbing in the shading to help sell that.
