I fixed that bug, and if you are one of the two people who voted that horse as a loss because of the broken image, your vote has been deleted. You can vote an extra time in this derby and will get an extra 5k for the new vote.

As a general note the derby is set up so things like foals ageing up or horses dyeing during rollover is not something you need to worry about. The image that is voted on is saved at the time of your entry, as is the owner of the horse. Let’s Play HorseGeneticsGame - a follow along guide to building an account from scratch.

I created a brand new account on May 28, 2025 called RedRiverRanch(#61320) on the Forest server. With this account I am going to extensively document everything I do every month so you can see the strategies I am using to build up the account. I hope people find this a helpful resource. As we go along if you have any questions about what I am doing or why please ask. This account is an open book.

Rules:
RedRiverRanch is a 100% normal account. It receives no outside funding or assistance, and has no access to anything any other normal member does not have. I only have my knowledge of the game.

Normal members can buy things for USD but I am doing a “no spend” challenge with this account to show how it can be done. I can trade hbs for USD items at a rate of 200k hbs to 1 USD. I will do this trade by destroying the hbs, that way no members have to send me actual money to support this account.

No premium upgrade until December. First, not everyone has access to premium so I want to show how it can be done without it, and secondly playing on basic allows me to spot bugs I would not normally see.

All stallions on this account will be available to the public each season.

Any foals born on this account will be entered into their respective era leaderboards. I want to show everyone real world example strats for getting on the leaderboards. That said this account will not enter any foals in any color clubs. This account will have some limited futurity participation for example purposes but I won’t be focusing heavily on them.

How to Enter
Open the "Dress-Up Derby" page and select Enter the Derby, under navigation and follow the instructions there.

Every Sunday a new theme will be announced. You will then have through Saturday night to decorate one horse up in a way that most creatively expresses that theme. On Sunday voting for that theme will begin. Voting will last again through Saturday with the winners announced on Sunday.

That means every Dress-Up Derby lasts 2 weeks in total.

How to Vote
A new vote will open each week. You will be allowed to vote up to 10 times and will be paid 10,000 every time you vote.

Voting is a versus competition. You will be shown two random entries and must pick between them. Every time you vote you will be shown two new random entries to pick from. The horse picked the most time among all votes will be the winner.

How to Win
Most derbies will award a large number of gene mod tokens to the first, second and third place winners. Our very first one is instead awarding a total of 40 diamond tokens between the first second and third place finishers.

Winners will have a cool down period before they are allowed to enter another derby to make sure multiple players have a chance to win prizes.

The theme for our very first derby is BIRTHDAY PARTY, in celebration of Ammit's 40th birthday. I willing be working on an update to the pasture page in the next week or two to make it easier to use, require less scrolling, and be more mobile friendly. It will end up looking more like the barn pages but have some additional functionality. It will no longer have the images, genetic papers or pedigree information listed. To see those you will need to open the pasture in the search.

That said I will be allowing some more bulk management options to be used in the pasture.

If you have any suggestions of things you want to see on a pasture page update, or comments about things you really don't want to see feel free to post them. For those unaware the most expensive part of running this game is the image generation. It's incredibly complex and expensive to keep a server farm running 24/7 365. For a while we had to disable images generating in the background. Because of a combination of optimization improvements by Haystack, the introduction of ads for free accounts, and wonderful support by our members we can now afford to get background image generation running again.

We have been slowly ramping up the image generation for several days now and everything looks stable and solid so we are ready to fully announce it now.

Here is our generation order of priority:
Two-year-olds owned by Premium+BC subscribers
Pasture foals owned by Premium+BC subscribers
Two-year-olds owned by Premium subscribers
Bulk tack updates for Premium+BC subscribers**
Bulk tack updates for Premium subscribers**

A Premium+BC subscriber is any member who has a premium subscription and a BC subscription, including the one month versions of these. A Premium subscriber is someone who has a premium subscription but not a BC subscription, including the one month versions of these.

Please note that only Premium+BC subscribers get auto generated pasture foals. Most pasture foals are never looked at. There is no reason for us to generate an image for them and then generate a second image when they get there adult image the following month. Because of that we are only double generating those images as a thank you to our Premium+BC subscribers.

We also are not automatically processing any image gen triggers based on age (other than age 2) or time (older than 3 months). We only want to pay for that image generation if someone actually cares about the image. If you want to force a barn to update it's images you will be able to do a bulk tack update (even if no tack changes) to force update them.
