TONS of people take advantage of the pasture, some because it is cheaper, others (like me) for the bonus. I think it definitely does help. Yes, the longer you leave the mare in the pasture the better her chance of producing a foal from the high 'end' of her ability will be. It takes 30 days to reach full affect, but each of those 30 days gives SOME increase in those chances. It also makes more room for show horses who have to live in the barns.
