A good rule of thumb is that any horse in your show barn earning points is better than no show horse. As you acquire horses with a better PT score or more points you might consider swapping him out later if you can't expand your barn space to make more room.

The secret to earning more income in the game is to have mostly show horses, and expand your barn space as you're able to acquire more show horses.
