SOLVED! :D perfect/exceptionally perfect = cap?
  • Hi everyone! I'm a new-ish account and just now decided on some breeding programmes and goals to follow, one of them being producing top quality E9 stock to sell and breed. I also have a lined, mostly purebred horse breeding programme and a show horse programme.

    I've read up a lot on breeding on the FAQ, especially cap ability horses for the E9 breeding programme, and sort of got the impression that Perfect and Top Notch Producer horses are guaranteed cap and any bonuses would be over cap (say, a Perfect Foundation mare with 30+ pasture bonus would be over cap). I also understood that a cap ability horse bred to another cap ability horse will always produce the best that generation can produce (in a second gen horse that would be B/Red 10.50pt) and therefore, if a foal comes out to be anything below that either one or both parent's can't be cap. I have a feeling I'm misunderstanding something because I have bred perfect horses together and gotten foals below or far below the second gen best.

    So, which fact am I getting wrong? I looked for a similar question around the forum and couldn't get anything conclusive, sorry if this is a common question ;v;

    Thank you in advance!

  • Perfect and Top Notch Producers are NOT cap. At least, in the way that this game defines cap. Perfect horses are the best breeding quality that a foundation can have, naturally. In a way, that is "cap," but not in this game. It is simply the best breeding quality of horses that you can create at the foundation level.

    Same for exceptional. Not cap. However, they are a boost upwards of perfect horses. These are not "natural" horses, and have been given a boost, and are one level up from "perfect." You cannot create these just by using "create a horse" and would have to boost them using a 5% boost.

    Ok, so what is cap? Cap is the highest breeding level that you can reach by breeding, no boosts. These will be **star and **gold horses. BUT, not all ** horses are cap. If you strictly breed, and don't use any boosts, you can reach cap by the 6th generation.

    I also understood that a cap ability horse bred to another cap ability horse will always produce the best that generation can produce

    This is wrong. ALL breeding pairs will have a range of foals they can create. You will always get foals that are equal, worse than, or superior to the parents. Yes, cap horses (in the correct definition) will still produce lower-quality horses.

    therefore, if a foal comes out to be anything below that either one or both parent's can't be cap.

    Because of the reasons above, no. :) So your horses are perfect, not cap, and are producing normally.

    Feel free to ask more questions if any of this doesn't make sense!
