Spaying/Gelding
  • So, I just bred all of my horses, most all were embryos. Can someone explain to me why EVERY single one of my foals got gelded and spayed? I spent a load of money and like im going to cry LOL. I just dont understand why when both parents were tested and good.
  • Can you link the foals in question for us?
That would definitely help us tell you what’s going on!

Did they get snipped by strict breeding advice?

  • ^^ Yes link would be helpful.

By saying your foals got gelded/spayed, do you mean they came out and were already altered? Or did you use SBA or BA?

  • I will link a few of them. I'm still having the same issue. Not sure what SBA or BA is.
  • I'm linking 3 of them that I plan on keeping, I've sold most of them and theres still some others i plan on keeping. The last one i just bred about 15 minutes ago.

  • SBA is strict breeding advice, and BA is breeding advice. These are in the control panel of a horse, or at the bottom of the page of barns. They will automatically geld/spay the horse you test if they are low quality. Did you use this?

Are you saying that these foals were altered when you didn't do anything to them? It looks like you have some foals that you bred that aren't altered, so it's not "all" your foals that are gelded/spayed.

Or are you trying to ask why they got snipped from breeding advice? I'm a little confused about what the problem/question is.

  • I use the one that's the free testing. I can't remember the name for it and I don't have any horses that don't have it as of right now for me to go look.

Yes, so after testing them it automatically gelded/spayed them. Which I was very surprised and upset because most of them were very good PT scores, and the mare and stud was always tested. It seems to be a more common occurrence using other people's studs versus my own. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. Some foals I have bought, some I have bred. 4 Of the foals now that I have bred that I had this problem with (getting gelded/spayed) I have used GT tokens to mod their gender.

I'm pretty much trying to figure out WHY, I'm sure there's not a way around it. I was told in the discord that coming here would help me. I'm really trying to figure out on what behalf of the mare and stud effects this. I really havent started having this happen until recently so I'm trying to see if theres a possibility its my mares, or if it's the studs I'm choosing. I'm also not sure how far in lineage effects the foal and if lineage effects it at all or if its strictly based on the mare and foal. I'm sorry, I hope I explained it okay, LOL.
  • I'm going to try to give an example using one of my horses that got gelded, but I modified him back to a stallion, just so if that explanation is not good enough.

So, heres one of my boys that was out of my last embryo. He is lined with what I take as great horses, theres specifically 2 that I see a good amount in lineage. His PT is 14.40, consistent, and is **Star papered. His dam is my mare who is also lined, her PT is 15.00 and **Gold papered. His sire has a PT score of 15.50 and is ***Star papered. All have been tested and are great horses, I'm just not sure if I'm missing something that effects the outcome of said foal to be gelded/spayed.
  • It is not about is the horse good in isolation. It is about is the horse good compared to its parents. At the very highest levels of breeding it is very hard to get the right genetic combinations to make foals that are standouts compared to their parents and these are very high level parents.

  • Okay! Thank you so much. That makes a little more sense now, I realize now that I've only noticed it happening as my PT scores are getting higher.
  • I sent you a little $$$ to make up for your disappointment!
