Surprise New Gene, Skewed Appaloosa for our Winter Festival
  • Introducing Skewed Appaloosa, a new mutation of the appaloosa (Lp) gene.

    image

Skewed Appaloosa markings (aka Appaloosa Mismark) is a phenomenon that happens in real life when the normal embryological processes that result in appaloosa markings fire at the wrong time. This results in the markings being in the wrong place. This is not genetic but entirely developmental and can not be inherited. A famous example is the appaloosa mare Uniquely Destined.

    image

There is now a very rare chance (1 in 20,000) to have skewed appaloosa markings happen randomly in the game, but I also wanted to add in a genetic version that you can breed for. This is after all a game for fun and not subject to the limits of real life.

The new Skewed Appaloosa gene is completely dominant over appaloosa. It does not require appaloosa to show. One copy of SLp creates a horse with appaloosa markings that range from very lightly to very heavily distorted out of their normal positions. Slp/- and SLp/Lp act identically and do not result in snowcap or few spot horses.

    SLp/? Examples

    imageimageimage

Two copies of SLp causes so mush skewing that the gradients flip and formally spotted areas became solid and solid areas become spotted. That means leopard appies can become solid and solids can become leopards. SLp/SLp does not create snowcaps or few spots like normal LP. SLp/SLp will never appear all white.

    SLp/SLp Examples

A few notes, skewing does not impact varnishing. Your horses will still varnish normally. I also fixed a bug where at a certain threshold varnish appies were losing their spots and going all white. This should no longer happen.

Horses with the SLp gene will have Skewed Appaloosa in their color name. They are not currently eligible for the Appaloosa Breeder Club but will be as soon as I can update those club rules.

    This gene requires a license.

Available for 15.99 per copy until the end of 2025.

  • Omg fun! Thank you!
  • This is super cool! I see the note about Appy clubs… will this affect eligibility for the snowflake club at all?

  • I added the gene to this stud, he dose not show the markings but I am sure he will pass it on to his offspring. It is good to breed solid color appys to colored appys, the foals tend to have very fancy and bold coloring.

  • I'm sad this came out after I created my stud. He already bred, so I guess oh well. It's pretty cool.
  • @RKOHaven it's because you added it to a leopard. If you remove one of the PATN1 genes he will show.

  • @Ammit Thank you for the tip, but I am happy with his look and he is producing very colorful foals.

  • I love them! I had seen on either Forest or Bluegrass someone else did it with Void and it was awesome. :D (eta: it was Summervines's in Forest)

l'll have to see how funds look in a week or so. So tempting.
  • Oh I don't think I can resist this gene, my goodness.

  • With the ones that might be "created" (the 1 in 20,00) is it going to show in the genetics are is it going to be like Snowflake was when it was first introduced and you didn't know until you bred them. (picture is pretty telling, not like the snowflake was LOL)

  • The random version is not genetic. It's just a visual distortion. It won't even show in the color name.
