Chinchilla has been updated - New Red Eye gene added
  • Like chocolate was before, chinchilla is currently listed as a fantasy gene. Also like chocolate chinchilla is a real gene (found in chinchilla rabbits) that I borrowed for our horses.

When this gene was added, genes borrowed from other species were given the fantasy flag. I no longer do this, so am happy to make chinchilla a non-fantasy gene now. However; the red eyes are not realistic for horses. Cats are about as large as you can get and still have pigmentless eyes appear red/pink and even then the pink eyed cats look blue eyed in most light. The blue is a result of the way light scatters and is reflected inside the eye. The larger the eye the more scattering and less red it will look.

Right now some of the chinchilla horses in the game have bright red eyes. It's the one thing that keeps me from removing the fantasy status. If I change them to a more realistic gray-blue-lavender found in actual large animals they can have the fantasy tag removed. You can see my suggested appearce for them in this image here.

Regarding clubs, this change would mean that horses with the chinchilla gene would be eligible for the non fantasy clubs (if they had no other fantasy gene) and being fantasy would not be required to enter the chinchilla club.

So here is the feedback I want from you:

Do you currently breed chinchilla horses?

If so how much of a focus are they for you?

If not would you start breeding chinchilla if it was no longer fantasy?

Would you prefer the red eyes stay or are you fine with the more realistic color?

    Thanks everyone!

    ---------------------------------------

Thank you everyone for the feedback. This update has been put in.

-Chinchilla horses will no longer be flagged as fantasy for having the chinchilla gene.
-Current chinchilla horses can have their fantasy flag removed by opening their page and refreshing their image. This will not work if they have other fantasy genes. It will look like you have to refresh the image twice, you don't, it just won't show on the page the first time you do this.
-If the new eye color does not show up after refreshing the image you will need to regenerate it instead (no new seed needed).
-You do not have to update the eye color if you do not want, it will happen over time eventually.

-The Fantasy:Chinchilla club is now just the Chinchilla club. The entry rules have not changed. They still just need to have the chinchilla gene.
-If you have removed the fantasy flag off your horse you can now enter it in any of the non fantasy clubs.

On forest server VenemousGiant and on mesa server Khisanth have suggested an eye color gene which I think is a great compromise. I have added a new gene to the GMT lab, as a fantasy mutation of tiger eye. RE (red eye) is only 2 gmts, completely dominate, and no license required.

I did not get the impression that anyone on any server was particularly invested in the red eyes but if I have messed up your chinchilla lines please send me a PM. I can add the RE gene in for you.

  • I love the chinchilla look and did previously have a stallion that I let age out. I would absolutely add it back into my herds.

The fantasy label has been the only reason I haven’t revived that gene in my herds at all.

I personally like the more natural eye look like you have suggested.

  • I used to breed for the Chinchilla gene, and like Arayla, simply let my herd age out.

The eye color is never a main focus for me but I wouldn’t mind the switch, since I know this club is on the smaller side (it could help more players enter and participate in the club).

    Thank you Ammit!

  • Do you currently breed chinchilla horses?
-no. I have chinchilla horses, but do not actively breed them.

If not would you start breeding chinchilla if it was no longer fantasy?
    -probably not

Would you prefer the red eyes stay or are you fine with the more realistic color?
    -I have no preference :)

    Barns always open!
  • Awesome I look forward to seeing the change with the Chinchilla gene. I love more realistic colors myself but what ever you and your team dose with the game will be great.
    I don't have Chinchilla horses
I would consider adding gene with a more normal color eye and no longer a fantasy horse.

  • Do you currently breed chinchilla horses? No. (I do have some eggs/straws stashed away from horses I had it added)

If not would you start breeding chinchilla if it was no longer fantasy?
Being fantasy was never a problem for me tbh. I originally purchased the gene/license for the coat. With that being said, the eye color isn't a big factor to me, I personally lean towards the proposed color.(Blue/Gray/Lavender)

I would make an effort to add it in more with my more 'natural' lines.
  • If the gene error to switch, what would barns who have already purchased the license compare to barns who can now access it without needing the license?

  • Fantasy status has nothing to do with license status.

  • Do you currently breed chinchilla horses?
Yes, I have a Sterling Line that includes chinchilla on silver blue roan appaloosas with Onyx - makes the coat look shiny like metal.

If so how much of a focus are they for you?
I like chinchilla a lot so I do have quite a few foundations and plan to have more

If not would you start breeding chinchilla if it was no longer fantasy?
It wouldn’t affect me if it no longer was fantasy as long as it remains like the chocolate club and fantasy horses are allowed. All of my chinchilla creates have other fantasy genes.

Would you prefer the red eyes stay or are you fine with the more realistic color?
I like the red for the fantasy element but am ok with the more realistic colors.

Maybe if any future fantasy designs are in the works eye color changes could be included. :D
  • Ammit, I had scatter brain and wasn’t thinking straight, that makes total sense now.

    Thank you!

  • I'd be more open to using the gene if it wasn't fantasy. Same with chocolate.
  • Chocolate and platinum not been a fantasy genes since January. :)

  • Exciting! Thank you so much for the Red Eye option!
  • I just see the chocolate LB is in the fantasy section so I was confused. Thanks for clarifying.
