How do height genetics work?
-
Hey all!
I'm trying to breed fancy colored riding ponies, but I've had to branch into warmbloods, riding horses, and sport ponies in order to get my desired colors. Is there a good way to decrease height and bone?
I do have a few horses with height regulator genes, however, I don't think I have enough to avoid inbreeding. Any tips?
Thank you in advance!"You, sir, are a fish." -Arthur Morgan

I’m fairly new but I have a smattering of Sport ponies so I feel like I kinda have this figured out. Both height and bone of a foal are determined by what seems to be an average of their parents. Once you have the colors you want, to get back to riding ponies, you would have to breed down for height and bone over the upcoming generation. You could probably stallion search based on your height or bone needs!

You can also add in the high regulator gene which reduces the size. It is in the GMT lab.Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )
