Question on GMT creation for Chimera

If I have a horse I want to add Chimerism to, I understand where to do that on the Gene modification page, but in the process of those horse’s “merging” together, does the horse I’m keeping maintain his current stats? Or does everything reset?

It basically erases the second horse and adds the genetics to the base horse. Stats stay for the base horse.ID# 1180

Just curious, what is the benefit to doing this? I can’t think of a time it would be better to have a 50/50 shot at genetics when breeding. Is it to give a horse with good stats to better traits to pass on?
