The Rosethorn Draft Horse (RDH), formerly known as the draft type Quarter Horse, only recently gained recognition as it's own breed with the founding of the Rosethorn Draft Horse Association (RDHA).

RDH originated as a cross mainly consisting of the American Quarter Horse, Arabian, and Belgian Draft, though the sparse addition of Appaloosa bloodlines later in the breeds development created the color range we see today. They were created with the aim of putting size and heavier bone structure on a Quarter Horse type look all while preserving an adequate level of versatility.

RDH breed standard defines an ideal height of 16 hands or higher, with a weight score at or above 3.0 preferred. Shorter heights and leaner builds are not an automatic disqualification, and several successful horses do not abide by this rule, though they rarely see the same success of taller, heavier counterparts in the show ring. There is no present color or coat length standard for the Rosethorn Draft Horse, with bold colors and patterns seemingly encouraged by judges. The only standing strict restriction roots itself in the horses behavior. Stallions must be able to turned out with geldings or spayed mares without exhibiting erratic or "stud-like" behaviors with the only exceptions being for colts under 3. Stallions that cannot maintain this are required to be gelded, at risk of penalties against the owner and from the RDHA, including loss of registerable status for future foals out of said stallion.

They are generally considered all arounders at the lower levels in most disciplines, though not much success has been seen in barrel racing and show jumping. Instead, they usually excel in the ranch versatility, endurance riding, and driving classes. Most experienced owners in the RDHA report them as somewhat difficult to handle, most taking after their Arabian ancestors, and don't usually recommend them for a green rider without an experienced trainer.
